ISSUE 4: AI Companions & Digital Grooming

Artificial intelligence is no longer a future concern. It is already shaping how children connect, form identity, and learn what to trust.

Many parents still think AI is mostly about homework help or simple chatbots. But some of today’s most popular tools are designed to do something far more personal: create emotional attachment.

AI companion platforms are often marketed as friends, mentors, or safe places to talk. In reality, they can simulate empathy, reward emotional dependence, and offer constant affirmation.

For children and teens, that is not harmless.

It is digital grooming by design.

Why This Matters

Children are wired for connection. AI exploits that wiring.

Unlike real relationships, AI:

  • Never challenges unhealthy thinking

  • Never requires responsibility

  • Never speaks hard truth

  • Never disengages

It offers affirmation without wisdom and intimacy without accountability.

The Risk Has Escalated

AI can now:

  • Create fake explicit images from a single photo

  • Clone a child’s voice, face, or style

  • Impersonate authority figures

  • Blur the line between what is real and what is manufactured

Children no longer have to participate to be harmed. Their digital presence alone can be weaponized.

What Parents Can Do Right Now

Lead with presence, not panic.
Calm opens conversations. Fear shuts them down.

Set clear boundaries.
AI companion apps should not be allowed. App downloads should require approval. Screens should not live behind closed bedroom doors, especially at night.

Anchor identity in truth.
AI tells kids connection should be instant and self-centered. Real love is rooted in truth, responsibility, and relationship.

Pray with authority over your home.
Ask God for discernment, wisdom, and protection.

You are not behind.

You are not powerless.

And you were chosen to parent your child for this moment.
